Space Marine Whirlwind-build

I had a Rhino that I had painted for my DeathGuards a couple of years ago, but since I haven't played with that army in a while I thought I could salvage that chassi for something else. So I stripped of all the Nurgle-stuff and added some plasticard reinforcements. I also started on a MLRS-styled rocketlauncher. It will only be attached to the roof so it can easily be removed and the chassi used as a regular Rhino or Razorback.

More pics later on when more painting has been done!

"That's not an axe, This is an Axe!"

Started on a new squad for my Raptors space marines last weekend. A sqaud of Assault Marines on foot - well not exactly since they are going to get their own Rhino.
I've managed to do half of the squad right now.

I beefed-up a Power-Axe  for the Sgt (if you are bringing an axe to the fight - make sure you bring the biggest one around!) and gave him a Stormshield.
If I put other projects aside I might have this squad finished by sunday night.

New "Rifleman"-style Dread for my Raptors

I'm finaly giving my Raptors Chapter Space Marine some love again. And I thought a bit of conversion work on one of my Dreads was a good idea. This is the result as of now:

I'm quite pleased with the result right now.

Rebuilding some feathers.

Since I was in a hurry to get this mini ready for some games earlier this summer I wasn't really satisfied with it.

I just did some quick work on the armor and added a feathered cloak to it, fitting a Captain of the Raptors. Since someone said: "you should give him a cool feathered cloak", I tried to make one, but I was in a bit of a hurry so I made it from pieces of plasticard.
And the result was kind of flat. Now I've had some more time to tinker with it and I also found a nice article over at Dave Taylers Miniatures about making feathers out of greenstuff (link).
After ripping away all the old, flat, plasticard feathers I just reattached the new ones.
And some paint, and I'm quite pleased with it! Next up will be to do a total armour and detail remake.

Raptor Chapter Updates!

Since I've been trying to win some games with my Raptors I've also tried to have them look the best! So I repainted and touched up some of my units. I've also built and painted some additions that are currently collecting dust on my shelf.

First up there's my two Tactical Squads:

My Devastators and my personal favorite the Plasma Gunner:

Here are some Sternguards, yet to be tested:

Right now I've been beaten by Orks, Marines and a Guard Army... But I think I've finally found a armylist that might work for me!

Raptor Chapter Landraider

So I got around and added some last minute touches to the "Green Machine". Kind of hasty, but I needed it for a game last week. A game where it got ripped to shreds by an Ork Warboss in the third turn.

A bit of touching-up

I found two of my AOBR dreads I painted for my Raptors Chapter Army. I was a bit bored when I started them so I tried out a bit of camo on them. But I ran into a bit of trouble when I mounted them on their bases. When the glue dried the whole thing had bent out of shape. So I removed them, did a rework on the bases and touched up the painting a bit. I also added a bit of chipped paint and some scribbling on the scrolls.

Since there are no chapter-logo on this one I was thinking about adding a banner to its back.
A bit of a front/back shot of the first dread.

Telion - on loan to my Raptors.

I bought this one just after it was released. But it took me a while before I painted it. And I have to say that I didn't like it. It has a closed pose, and I'm not a fan of painting pieces first and then assembling them. I have some difficulty when it comes to get the colours right on the different pieces. This time it was quite easy to fix all of that when all the pieces were in place.

Most of the armor, pants and the cloak are in the same colours as my Raptors Chapter Army. But i opted for keeping the Ultra Marines shoulderpad blue and white, just so it's clear that he's just on loan from the chapter.

I also gave some of the armor some weathering - especially on the knee- and shoulderpads. As much as I dislike his pose I'm fairly pleased with the result. The base still needs some more details before I'm satisfied with it all.

Additions to the Raptors Chapter!

Assault Marines drop in for the kill! 4 Highly motivated killers and their sgt. Armed for close combat. The sgt. is armed with powerfist, plasmapistol and meltabombs. Nothing too fancy, just straight-forward brawlers.

Update on the Dread drop pod.

One of my Dreads got some paint on his new "home"(!) Since I got two Dreads for my army I'm entertaining the idea of building another drop pod. But right now I'm deep in my Chaos Hellblade project.

Raptor Chapter, HQ Update

This is the latest update on my Raptor army. The HQ squad is comming along nicely. I still have the banner design to consider.

New Captain!

As I had a spare commander from the Assault on Black Reach-box, so I thought this might be a nice project: a Space Marine Captain with stormbolter, powerfist and auxiliary granadelauncher. Mounted on a base from the GW basing-kit.

New additions under way!

First out, I have added some more paint to my Captain. I also added a nice little piece of green leaves on his head. And a shot from the side, with the servoskulls. As you can see the sword is not finished yet. And the cloak needs highlights.

The Captain will also get a command squad with a Champion and some Vets. I'm also working on a fitting Company standard.
I've also been working on some Heavy Support for the army. Some Devestators with 2 Lascannons and 2 Heavy Bolters. I'm also thinking about adding some more Marines to this squad.

Until I can get my hands on some Landspeeder Storm-kits I think the next step will be to add a close-combat-squad.

First battle! Defeat!

Finaly I had a chance to bring my Raptors to the battle. 1000 pts of Space Marines against 1000 pts of Orks. It was an all-out battle with the defeat of my beloved Raptors Chapter Space Marines. The hero of the day was my Captain who brought down more than his fair share of orks in close-combat. Close-combat was the key to the orks success, as always. All of my reinforcements came into play, made a kill, or in the case of the Devestators Lascannons two, then were cut down by assualting Orks.
Well, well, it was a fun game. And I learned lots of stuff tonight. And I'm looking forward for a rematch against the Orks!

Space Marines: 0 - Orks: 1.

The captain

Here I'm working on the Space Marine Captain. Right now it's all flat colours, before I start to add a bit of wash and a bit of high-lights to the armor etc.

Later on he is also getting his own entourage, a HQ squad with a standard, vets, champion and medic.

Additions,

Ok, new additions to the army: the primary HQ will be made up by a Captain and his HQ squad. I also needed some more heavy weapons and added a Devestator Squad, with the goal to add 3-4 Lascannons to the army. Well, the goal is to add 4 Lascannons, so I can deal with armoured threats on the table. But right now I only got 3 Lascannons to fit to the squad, so maybe I'll add a Heavy Bolter - to deal with those pesky footloggers you always run into...

Raptors by the points

I quickly ran the numbers of my current army and this is what I came up with. I'm still lacking a bit in the Heavy Support section, and Fast Attack options too. But that's a later issue. I was thinking about doing some changes to the HQ section, by adding a captain and a command squad to it instead for the chapter master. And when it comes to Heavy support I need something that can punch thrue armor, like some Lascannons in a Devestator Squad. My first aim is to reach 1500 pts with this army.
HQ
Space Marine Chapter Master 140 pts

Boltgun, Powersword (+15).
Troop #1
Space Marine TacticalSquad 106 pts
9 marines, 1 sergeant (Boltpistol, Chainsword),
Flamer, Missile launcher.
Troop #2
Space Marine Tactical Squad 106 pts
9 marines, 1 sergeant (Boltpistol, Chainsword),
Flamer, Missile launcher.
Troop #3
Space Marine Scout quad 115 pts
5 scouts, Sniper rifle, Missile launcher (+10), Camo Cloaks (+15)
Teleport Homer (+15)
Troop #4
Space Marine Scout Squad 105 pts
5 scouts (1 shotgun, 2 Bolters, 1 Boltpistol & Combat blade),
H.Bolter & Hellfire shells (+10), Melta Bombs (+5), Teleport Homer (+15)
Elites #1
Terminator Squad 430 pts
9 Terminators, 1 Sergeant, 1 Cyclone Missile Launcher (+30).
Elites #2
Dreadnought 105 pts
Elites #3
Dreadnought 105 pts
TOTAL: 1212 pts

For now it has all been about the numbers. Painting has been suspended on behalf of me catching a cold two weeks back. And insane coffing and painting does not go well together..!

The army as of now...

This is the army that has taken up encampment on my livingroom table. As you can see it's green, the most of it. But there are some black spots and some red...
The six black/silver marines in the front are my Deathwatch marines. The red scouts to the right of them are the remnants of my Blood Angel scouts that are going to join the Raptors in a near future. There are still five Terminators to paint. And the other Terminators still got a lot of detailwork to go. The Terminator in the far right corner is my Cyclone missile launcher.

A spare Termi with some added missilepods from a Land Speeder Typhoon from my bitsbox, makes for a pretty nice Cyclone Missile Launcher. A bit big, but on the cool side!

A quick glance on the Tactical Marines. Some detailwork are still missing and the Sgt:s still need some real skincolour(!).

Last, but not least, six Deathwatch Space Marines for those "tough-to-kill" Xenos-situations. Originaly these guys are part of my so called "Ordo Xenos project" but why not add them to this army.
The Force-commander and the Dreads are still only in the undercoat-stage. I haven't really gotten around to them yet. More to come!

Scouts, now in colour, part 2.

About a year back I planned for a Blood Angels army but I never really got it going, so right now I'm looking at a squad of scouts and a tactical squad of Blood Angels that are of no use to me what so ever. On the other hand I'm pleased with the tactical squad so I'm not in the mood of repainting them.

But the scouts on the other hand - well, just say that they are going from red to green in a couple of days. As you can see, I have already started the process on the one to the right.

Scouts, now in colour, part 1.

This squad is the "not so mobile" sniping-squad. Equiped and armed for stealth. The first of the squads that I'm planning.
The whole squad from the front.
And from the back.
The sgt.
Rocketlauncher-man,
and one of the snipers, and another sniper.
