Wellcome to PlasticFish Online!
Trying to get this page back on track!
Finaly I had a chance to bring my Raptors to the battle. 1000 pts of Space Marines against 1000 pts of Orks. It was an all-out battle with the defeat of my beloved Raptors Chapter Space Marines. The hero of the day was my Captain who brought down more than his fair share of orks in close-combat. Close-combat was the key to the orks success, as always. All of my reinforcements came into play, made a kill, or in the case of the Devestators Lascannons two, then were cut down by assualting Orks.
Well, well, it was a fun game. And I learned lots of stuff tonight. And I'm looking forward for a rematch against the Orks!
Space Marines: 0 - Orks: 1.
The first session was also a kind of testrun. To see if the game was a "keeper" or if I should put it back on the shelf. After a bit of work the final cast was made up by: a Preacher from a wartorn Imperial world. A rugged and violent ex. guardsman from a feral backwater world. And last but not least a Voidborn Psycher. The trio soon descended on the Gorgonide Mine in search for some answers and some action. The gamingsession went on in staggering steps, but it got us all to get to know the rules, the skills and the combatsystem of the game. And there were also a lot of laughs.
The Preacher learned how important a helmet can be, the Guardsman learned the joy of burstfire and the Psycher almost became a victim of "perils of the warp" - twice.
All in all both me and my players had a good time. And "Dark Heresy" will surely be on the menu a lot in the future! Also, I got my hands on both "Purge The Unclean" and "The Inquisitors Handbook", so there will be a lot of catching up the comming week.
Final score: Acolytes 1 - Mutants 0.
Or will GW ever go “small”. Resurrect the Killteam. After the release of the “Last Chancers”-box lots of years ago there haven’t been any “smallscale” ideas from GW:s thinktank. Everything has gotten bigger and bigger. And with the launching of the Apocalypse: Reload things will certainly get even bigger. Unfortunately the new edition of the rules didn’t contain any new thoughts on Killteam-gaming, but there is a new feel about the game. There has been a change in GW:s tone towards the game. With more emphasis on the “story” and a bit less on the “hardcore rules”. The rules are not there to facilitate “I win – You Lose” but the idea of a “good game” or “Fun game”. But in the end the truth is now obvious that the, so called “Kill Team “-rules from the last edition of the rules have been stricken from the book. Instead there are now references to the ”Apocalypse”-rules. So instead of opening up for smaller games GW now opens up the door for the “big(!)” games. But in all honestly the “Apocalypse”-rules are free and without boundaries. So why not shrink it down? In the spirit of the “free form of the game” I can easily see an opening that brings back the essence of the “Killteam”. You could always follow the guidelines that you can find in the previous edition or you could just use some common sense and pitch the battle in any way you and your companions feel like.
I've been a bit pressed lately to finish this "Rapid Insertion"-mini for the SLAGFEST-08 competition on the WIP website. I had a real hard time comming up with an idea for this competition. "Put what you want on a 40mm base"... Well that's a bit to open for me. I need guidelines! ;-) But after some tinkering I came up with this rope-thing. And after that I just kind of winged it. So here we have a trooper from the "XIII"-something being dropped into an urban warzone somewhere in the galaxy. There are several details about this one that I'm not satisfied with, but that just have to do for now.
The number "XIII" on the shoulderpad is not ment to connect him with the 13:th penal legion but more to illustrate that in two earlier competitions my entries was placed on number 13 on the list of voting options. This time I almost hoped for the one in charge to put me back on place 13, instead my entry went up on the list at number 4.
This one was originaly the testsubject for some of the skincolur and camopainting that I used on the "Rapid Insertion"-piece. It is also something that the movie "Aliens" inspired me to do. You could also call it a demonstration of "the poor mans combiflamer". And it's not a beret on his head(!), it's a red cap. Over all I'm more pleased with the outcome of this one, he might even qualify to join the IG Killteam. On the other hand he's ment to be a penal-legion trooper, so I might use him as the first penal-trooper in a new project, Last Chancers!
I've been reading the Last Chancers collection, by Gav Thorpe (pure insane, high octane military madness, you got to read it!), and it's almost impossible not to get a lot of cool ideas for new projects. So I've been a bit distracted from my other projects for a while now. But I'm putting the Last Chancers-killteam of until I can get my hands on a Colonel Schaffer blister. And when I'm on that subject: why on earth does the blister come armed with a plasmapistol ?! He's always using his powersword and boltpistol in the books. Well that's surely one thing that I have to fix when I get my hands on it, replacing the plasmapistol with a boltpistol is the first thing I'm going to do! But that's all in the future right now.
Hmmm... there are lots of things in the future, got to revise that "to do"-list...
Finally a new online game set within a Sci-fi story!
After playing at the whole Easter weekend (and a bit more) my opinion on the game is that it’s just great! And it has a lot of potential for the future. Right now there are lots of rumors out there about new updates and expansions, I won’t discuss them here, because it might just be talk without substance. And all would be nice and fuzzy if it hadn’t been for a lot of strange comments in the general chat, from players that was constantly cracking down on every little detail. The comments all have one thing in common: they come from people that play a lot of World of Warcraft. But the funniest comment I snatched during the Easter weekend must have been the following: “can you roleplay in a sci-fi game?”, followed be the discussion “how do you roleplay in a sci-fi game?” *sigh!* Well, you do like you always do! You play your character. Just like you do in your favorite game WOW. Just because it’s a Sci-Fi game doesn’t exclude the possibility of playing your character. It’s strange that people believe that you can only roleplay your character in a fantasy-setting. After all the badmouthing I can’t stop to wonder: Why do people pay to play a game they don’t like? And at the same time criticize the games’ story and mechanics… I will never understand that, I’m only glad that there are other games out there than WOW. The only drawback with WOW, that it has so many players out there, is that people tend to use the game as a benchmark. But maybe it’s not so strange that it has come down to that. With so many people playing WOW, it’s unavoidable that players start judging other games by the same standards they are used to. Myself, I don’t play WOW, have never tried it, have no interest in it and I will never install it onto my computer! There’s just too little Sci-Fi in WOW to accommodate my needs!
Got my hands on the new Dawn of War: Soul Storm the other day. And once again I'm on the brink of getting a stressed out heart attack by playing these real-time strategic games. But on the bright side the level of detail is as usual stunning. I started of by playing the Imperial Guard in campaign-mode just to realise that the new Sisters of Battle is a hard foe to beat! So after giving them a fair chance and some hours of gametime the great Imperial Guard grinded to a halt. But instead of throwing the game in the trash I went back to the basics and picked up the Blood Ravens storyline. As I said before the RTS-based games are a bit too stressfull for my taste and to complicate matters the different upgrades and abilities of the individual units can make the game a bit confusing to say the least. So often, in the heat of the battle, you just use the massed Bolter-fire, the marines standardattacks, to scythe down your enemies! Right now I have just exterminated the Orks from the first planet so there is still a long way to go, and a lot of concentrated hours of gameplay left! Next step: Exterminate The Tau!
Well, so it begins. After posting all my creations on the Work In Progress-board I decided that it was time to create a more comprehensive collection of my work. And I had been thinking about starting a Blog for some time. So why not kill to birds with one stone and combine the two ideas into one.
Future plans consist of posting my finished projects as well as those that are in the making. And while I'm at it, why not throw in some thoughts and comments on gaming (in all its forms) as the ideas pop into my head. And if I'm fortunate, if the gods of creativity and time is on my side, I also hope to publish my upcomming comic.
But that's a big if right now...
