Same old song

What have I been up to lateley?
Well, I've been working and in between I've been playing some games and painting some minis. I recently started up Battlefleet Gothic with some friends. It's really a project I've been working on for the past year, but never got of the ground...

Right now I got 2 Ramships (the blue ones in the front row), 3 Savage Gunships, 2 Ravager Attack Ships, 2 Kill Kroozers (the big chunky onew to the right) and 2 Terror Kroozers (well one of them is still being painted). I'm also working on a Spacehulk and some more Fighta Bomma-markers.
Since I scratchbuild all of my ships I only invest time in this project, while my friends buy ships from GW and ForgeWorld. So right now we only play 500pts games.

Here we have my 500 pts list. A Terror Kroozer, a Kill Kroozer and a trio of Savage Gunships. In the last game I opted to change my Heavy gunz batteries for torpedolaunchers with looted torpedos.
The last game was against my friends Tau-fleet and it ended in a terrible draw. Both our remaining ships tried to outmanouver eachother and after two hours we decided that we both had enough...
That game put the finger on the problem - I need more, cheap, and fast escorts!

Another Necromunda-night

So I'm back from another afternoon with Necromunda. Sorry to say that it was a complete disaster for my team but it was also a lot of fun.
First, I've been trying out my "Techgang" a couple of times - without any great success I may add. Second, we played a three-sided battle. My "Techgang", the Mercs and a gang of Scavvies - with too many Zombies lined up for a fight. The result was devestating for my gang. One of my gangers was turned into a Zombie and my Leader got blown away by one of the Scavvies...
So that was the end of my "Techgang" for this time. Since then I've been dubbling my efforts, and trying to get the Van Saar ChromeLords into business again. Somewhere Downhive there's a rumor that an invasion of Plague Zombies is on the way... It's time to rally all hardened fighters in the defense of the Underhive.

Another go at my Baneblade, part 1.

As I said in my previous posting I've been putting some work into getting my old Baneblade finished. I wasn't satisfied with the outcome the first time around, so now I'm trying to fulfill the original vision I had for this project.

The picture above is a before picture. This was the tank before I started to update it.

First, I did a bit of repainting. And painted over all (!) of the brass rivets that I so painfully picked out the last time around. I also added the colours of my "Strom Renegade" Imperial Guard army, the red and yellow stripes, both on the armor and on the turret. I also, after some digging in my bitbox, found and added the storage compartments to the turret. I also found some pics on the GW site, of a Tallarn Baneblade with the muzzlebreak from the Hellhammer cannon added as a muzzlebreak to the regular Baneblade cannon. It's a simple, yet nice touch that makes it stand out a bit more.

I also added the smokelaunchers and a couple of more Nurglings (still got a few more to add). Most of the Nurglings also needs to be repainted - since most of them was painted quite hasty the first time around.

On top of the turret there will be a gunner with a heavy stubber, a screaming tankcommander and maybe a gurdsman riding along on top of the storagebins.

Right now I've focused almost all my work on the right side of the tank, both on the side and on top of it - I need to give the turret and the whole of the left side a bit more love.

A bit of a close-up on the weathering on the right side. The tracks still need to get its proper colour and it might need more "slime".
More pictures will come, as soon as I've gotten some more work done on it!

A bit of an update.

Ok, I'm back again. But no pictures of my ongoing projects. Since the last posting I've finished the magnetized Russ and I'm planning on adding another one or two to the army.
I've also started to do a bit of repainting on my old Baneblade.

I got this one as soon as it was released and I rushed the painting to get it ready for a Apocalypse game at the local GW-store. So I took some shortcuts and I've never really been satisfied with the result. So I've been adding some more details (some more Nurglings!) and some more paint, including a lot of battledamage.

Working on the Leman Russ

So, I'm on vacation. And there are a lot of other things I've been doing besides from painting. But I've managed to slap some paint on the magnetized Leman Russ I started a while back.

As I said before I'm aiming at getting it into the same colour as the other vehicles in the army. A bit of a challange, since I've forgotten the exact combination of paints.

The left side is still a bit "too clean". Well, both sides and the top, front and back needs more work.

The top-view shows that there are a lot of work left to be done! Yes, I also need to start to work on the turret and the weapons!

Leman Russ magnetized

Once I figured out how much of the gun had to come of it was no problem replicating the process on all of the guns. I simply removed the squared part, that fits into the turret, slapped a magnet on it and carefully fitted the shield on top of the part of the gun that sticks out from the turret.

I also fitted magnets to all of the guns. So the guns fits nice and tight against the turret.

To make the sponson-weapons and the hull-mounted weapon stick into place a fitted magnets into the bottom of the empty sockets and glued a peice of metal to the ends of the guns. It's not a really tight fit, but it keeps them in place much better than if you just leave them unglued.
I glued the sponsons in place, I could have magnetized them but I didn't want to have the whole tank go into peices if you picked it up from the table in the wrong way...

Since I'm playing a traitor-guard army this one will have the same kind of paintjob as the Vendetta and the Sentinel that are already in the army (pictures of the vendetta and the sentinel).

Now I just need to add some more metal to the weapons and I'm ready for the painting!

Another weekend...

Another weekend has passed. And what have I been up to? Well, I got my hands on a Leman Russ-kit last week and I spent some time building it and magnetizing it.
Pictures will be up tomorrow. But as I was building the kit some points of interrests came to mind:
First of the Leman Russ is a really easy kit to build, and that's on the plus-side. On the negative side I really can't understand why they don't put all the options for the tank into the kit..! It really ticked me off, that a need to get a "tank accessories"-sprue from GW if I want to put on a dozer-blade or add a Heavy Stubber to it.
Well ok, sure I could use plasti-card to build me a dozer-blade but I don't really have the time right now...

Well, I'm not going to take up more time with the subject. Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of the magnetizing of the weapons and some thoughts on the future!

As I promised in my posting from yesterday, pics of some work I've done.

Here we got three of my four Sergeant Daemonettes for my "Strom Renegades". I'm still not satisfied that these have a place in the army. They might be a bit too Daemonette for the over-all feel of the army...

It took some time, but I managed to decide on a paintscheme for my armored Veterans. It's mainly different shades of grey... and some battledamage on the armorparts. I wanted the lenses to pop-out a bit from the rest, so I painted them green.

I'm having a hard time getting any painting done right now. Maybe the nice weather is making me a bit uninspired. I was planning on doing some painting last weekend, but I got stuck behind the computer the whole weekend.
But before I lost the inspiration I did slap some paint on the new Chaotic squadleaders (the IG- Daemonette kitbash) for my "Strom Renegades" and I have also tried-out a new scheme for my Veterans in carapace armor.
Well, I dont't have any pictures right now. but I'm hoping to get them up by tomorrow or the day after that.
For the future, or for my vacation to be exact, I'm thinking abot adding som new nice firepower to my Renegades, maybe a tank-squadron...

Not as productive as I hoped...

It has been a very long weekend, well it has been national holidays and stuff like that, I was hoping that I could spend it building and painting. But faith didn't play it my way. I had grand plans but unfortunatly these are the only results I could come up with:

"The Huntress", I needed to add a bit more firepower to my Necromunda-collection.

A fun build, but it was hard to fit all the weapons on it. But in the end I must say I'm pleased with the result.

For some time I've been planning some additions to my "Strom"-renegade army. So I added some grenade-launchers, so I can use either flamers or grenade-launchers in my infantry squads, or field them as part of a special weapons squad.

I also started on adding some new squad-leaders to my collection. Right now all sergeants are armed with powerswords and boltpistols, a combination that has proven to be a bit overrated (since I never get them into range..) So I tried mixing some IG bits with some Daemonette bits. I'm not 100% sure about these. The Daemonette-bits put a bit more "Daemon"-feel to the army, I have to paint them and evaluate the result..

Last fridays rumble in the Underhive

Once again the ChromeLords tried to take on the Sump Mercs. This time some of the members of the ChromeLords tried to hit the Mercs where it vould hurt the most - by taking out one of their Waterstills.
Since they were seriously outgunned they tried to sneak in to the encampment and take the Mercs totaly by surprise.

Dogboy, now a ganger and armed with a Boltgun (and lots of extra ammo), took the lead. The trio was covered by Gunman and his trusted heavy-stubber.

But the Mercs were waiting for them, armed mostly with Bolt-weapons and frags. And reinforcements were on the way, so Dogboy and the crew had to hurry if they were to succeed with their mission.

In the end, the Waterstill proved to be too sturdy for even Dogboys Boltershells and the crew had to fall back, since they had taken too many casualties to be able to continue the attack.

So the first game didn't go as planned. Well, since I only had half the gang on the table against all of the Mercs I could only hope to make one push at the target before I had to fall back. The push failed and I might have miscalculated the amount of firepower needed to hurt the Waterstill..

Furious with the defeat the ChromeLords mounted a fullscale attack on the Mercs. It was time for a total Gangfight!

I deployed the gang in a "classic" Van Saar gunline and started to strafe the area with gunfire, with great success! But in the end they were pushed back and had to retreat, because of a failed leadership-roll... If defeat wasn't bad enough my leader suffered a serious head-wound making him very unreliable in the future!

The ChromeLords will be back in the future, and hopefully I will be able to score some wins!

Necromunda Friday

So, tomorrow is Friday and I'm planning for another Necromunda-night. What will I bring to the table? The ChromeLords or will the Adeptus Mechanicus Explorators crawl up from the deepest holes of the Underhive?
On the other hand the ChromeLords got a bone to pick with "Captain Carnage" and his Mercs!
Looking forward to some games and if I'm lucky - I'll come out on top this time.

Some time ago I posted some "Techno-ghouls" that I had been working on for some time (well, on and off for some time anyway). I couldn't find a place for them in my collection but since we started up Necromunda again I thought "why not put them all in some kind of gang".
But they needed some kind of leader, so I put together this one:

The Adeptus Mechanicus Explorer.

Armed with all the things needed for a successfull venture down in the Underhive of Necromunda, in search for forgotten Archeotech.

I bit of a detail-shot of his eye. I didn't want to give him too many bionic parts, since he's a low-level member of the order.

Another Underhive tale

Friday night was once again Necromunda-night. Just as last time it was the ChromeLords versus the Mercenaries. We had time for three games and started of with an old fashion Gangfight.

"Gunman" takes up position to provide coverfire for his advancing mates.


The Mercenaries has taken up positions inside the abandoned framework of the derelict manifactorum.

"Castor" leads some Juves against the leader of the Mercenaries as the rest of the gang climbs up the tower to get into a better position. Unfortunately "Castor" and the Juves didn't realize that the Mercenaries now sported some brand new weapons, like grenade launchers.

"Pollux" tries to lay down some cover-fire as "Castor" and "Smiley Jr." tries to fall back into cover. Their retreat was brought on by the detonation of a frag granade that downed "Smiley" and took "Dogboy" out of action.

Attacking from a high position has its advantages.


"Jailbreak" takes up a firingposition behind an empty fueldrum.

Several attempts was made to flush out the Mercs but they responded with hails of Bolter shells and frag granades. The ChromeLords took heavy casualties but held their nerve until the end. The Mercs decided to fall back. They might have lost the battle but they came out on top - since the ChromeLords took four seriously wounded casualties.

The second mission was a Scavange mission.

The theme of the game was running!

It was a race for resources as both sides tried to claim as many of the five loot counters as possible. Unfortunatly the ChromeLords only managed to grab one of them before the hail of Bolter shells and frag granades became too much for them. Running and long-range Heavy Stubber dueling became the dominant theme of this session. In the end the ChromeLords nerve failed and they bottled out of the fight.

The third and final mission of the night we played a short Shootout scenario. The ChromeLords was represented by "Castor" and the Juve "Dogboy". The ChromeLords, filled with hate for the Mercs, failed to hold their cool and went for their guns as fast as they could. Only to be gunned down by the Mercs..
In the end it was a fun night, but I'm getting a bit tired of being defeated all the time..

Lord of the Spire

Yesterday I had the opportunity to play some more Necromunda. This time myVan Saar "ChromeLords" took on a Mercenary gang of sump-pirates in a game of "Lord of the Spire".

Simple rules; climb the tower and hit the big red button! Not as easy as it sounds when the competition keeps firing at you...
The first match ended after 6 rounds, with the winning point to the Mercenaries. The first match bogged down and turned into a bit of an ordinary gang-fight, witch made the crowd happy but took a heavy toll on both sides.

For the return match both sides adopted another tactic: run for the target!
Unfortunately the vanguard of the "ChromeLords" ran into some trouble as they were nearing the tower.
"Chef" and "Castor" was taken out of action by a combination of Bolter and Heavy Stubber fire. "Ceasar" returned fire but is taken down by a Frag grenade. While he is trying to get back on his feet he is charged by "Itchy Psychobitch" from the Mercenary-gang. With her Chainsword she almost takes out one of his eyes, if it hadn't been for the "ChromeLords" medic that is...

So, all in all, it was a double failure! But the "ChromeLords" carries on and will sooner or later take revenge on the mercenaries!

Red hats in the Underhive...

The "Red Hats" are one of the more flamboyant gangs originating from the House of Delaque. Usually they sneak around in the shadows, but not the "Red Hats".

I wanted to do something more colourfull than a gang of black, grey or brown trenchcoats running around the battlefield. So I gave them hats and some more defined clothing, like striped or checkered pants.

Shotguns are also a "theme" I wanted to run with. Right now there are 3 gangers armed with shotguns as their primary weapon (the 2 above and anotherone is still in the WIP section).

Another Ganger, armed with a autogun - I'll might add some type of magazine or ammo drum to his weapon, to make it more obvious that its a autogun he's carrying.

No, it's not an assaultcannon (!), I used the original heavy stubber for another project some time ago. But when I started to reconstruct and repaint this gang I found that the assault cannon (originally from a Land speeder - I think) fits quite nicely. Anyway it's a Heavy Stubber and not an Assault Cannon...

Three more Gangers that I'm working on. I'm going to add some more details to them before I paint them. I also got a Juve, another autogun Ganger and a Heavy with a flamer that needs to be stripped of paint before I can repaint them.
I baught this gang at a convention, about 12 years ago. It was cheap a deal, but they were in an awful state. Thick layers of paint covered some of the details so I've been giving them long baths in a cleaning product for windows which tends to dissolve the paint.

I'll put in some work on this gang when I've got the time, I still need to repaint a couple of gangers for my Van Saar gang since I got a couple of games lined up for sunday.

A simple ruined shack

Yesterday I threw together this little shack.

The "wooden planks" are raided from McDonalds - the things you stirr your coffe with...

The roofing, will be painted as rusted metal, are made from cardboard, stripped from its outer layer. I also gave it dash of a mix of glue and water, to starch it a bit.

The second level of this shack can accommodate 2 or 3 minis - since there is no roof.

Well, I'm pleased with the result, but will add some more details before I paint it.

Big trouble in the Underhive...

A bit on the "ChromeLords" adventures and misadventures in the Necromundan Underhive.
Part 1:
It all started with a simple Scavange mission. The gang made their way into the area in search for old, but useful junk to sell at the trading post. Everything went as planned until, from the shadows, hazy and shadow-wrapped assailants emerged. Their strange needle weapons made easy prey of the Van Saar gangers. The "ChromeLords" quickly rethought the battleplan and drove the Deviant Scum from the area, but not before they made it of with half of the useful loot.
The "ChromeLords" was left wondering what in the Emperor they just encountered…
So how could the "ChromeLords" learn more about these strange new adversaries?
Maybe we can lure them out with a caravan - the Gangleader Ceasar thought.

Which was the thing leading up to the second scenario.
The "The CromeLords" made a deal with a local Guilder to watch his caravan and maybe draw out the strange Deviants into the open.
The plan was both a bit of a success and a bit of a failure. Most of the ChromeLords got peppered with poisoned darts before they even could spot the Deviants and Castor, with his autogun, was the only one who could put one of them down.
One of the strange shadow-wrapped creatures got into the caravan area, but was only able to steal and make of with only a few credits worth of merchandise.
Luckily no Guilder was harmed during the attack.

The "ChromeLords" are still wondering who these strange intruders are…
More to come on that subject!

Part 2:
Another Scavanger mission for the "ChromeLords". This time the rumors said it might be Scavvies in the area. Just minutes into the hunt the mysterious and alien intruders emerges from the shadows and attacked the Lords.

The strange shadowy creatures turns out to be a group of Eldat scouts...

And from the other side of the area they could hear the tell-tale noises of the Scavvies closing in on the fight.
After a three-sided battle with the alien intruders caught in the middle the Scavvies decimated them with a well placed shot from a scatter-cannon leaving only the "ChromeLords" standing against them.

The Juves are making a run for the closest objective.

The Lords sent forward the Juves and covered them with fire from the Heavy Stubber, taking down a Scaly and a Scavvie.

Just seconds before the Van Saar "gunline" is hit with the blast from a scattercannon...

In the end the Scavvies retreated with part of the loot, leaving the "ChromeLords" as the winning gang, once again!

Part 3:
The "ChromeLords" went home with most of the loot from the scavanger hunt at the old gunk-tank. Meenwhile the Eldar Scouts plotted another attack on the Scavvie warband. An attack the went horribly wrong and almost landed the teamleader in the pot at the Scavvies encampment. But the surviving Eldar went on a daring rescuemission and against all odds managed to free their captured comrade. So the scouts slipped away into the shadows and disappeared - for this time, they might be back...

Since there won't be any Necromunda this week I can concentrate on painting my gangs. Besides from my Van Saars I'm also working on a very colourful bunch of Delaques (pictures will be posted when later this week).

Back in the Underhive again...

My collection of Necromunda minis have been collecting dust for many years - but not anymore! The passageway thru "The Wall" is once again open. After talking about how much we all loved the game we started to dig around for our old gangs. Back in the day when we played the game, the painting of my gangs wasn't the primary interrest. So the first thing I did a couple of weeks ago was to strip the paint of most of them and start a bit of a re-painting project. After a week of work I had as many minis ready as I needed to build me a new Van Saar gang.
As I started to finish painting the gangmembers I started to get more and more inspired about the game once again. We've played three games so far and everyone is really excitet about the game.

My gang leader, Ceasar. Leader of the "Chrome Lords". A classic conversion made from a Vindicare Assassin body.

The "core" of the gang. Three gangers with Autoguns and a Lasgun. Named Castor, Polux and the third one is still nameless...

Two Heavies, Chef is the one with the meltagun and the chainsword and Gunman is the one with the heavy stubber. Gunman still needs a bit of a repainting done to him.

A trio of Juves. The one in the blue jumpsuit is named Smiley Jr. Junior because he is the kidbrother of the original Smiley who got killed in the second scenario we played.
The Juves have proven to be an invaluable part of the gang, sneaking around and running forward to try (!) and grab the loot before anyone else could get their hands on it. The second Juve, the one with the autopistol and the stubgun is called Three-Toes, since he suffered the effects of the "old battle wound" on the serious injury chart.

Well, it was some time ago since my last posting. I've been super-busy with my new job and I've been trying to find some spare time to get some painting done.
I found these pics laying around, it's part of an Imperial Guard army-idea I had a while back.

Grenadier Veterans armed for close quarter firefights.

The idea was sparked by the release of the new ForgeWorld Cadians in enviromental suits. I wanted a sleeker design so I opted for not using any airtanks or stuff lika that. Although all the Veterans carry backpacks, close combat weapons ans shotguns.

I also started on a Company command squad in the same style, as you can see below.

I'm not sure what to make of all this yet. I'm not that eager to add them to my usual triator Imperial Guard army - the Strom Renegades. But on the other hand: can I really start a whole new Imperial Guard army?
I was thinking about painting them in colours that suits them for urban and city/Hive warfare. I just don't have the inspiration right now.
There are far more interresting thinks to put my spare time into - like Necromunda, more about that in tomorrows posting.

Tech-Ghouls

I have no idea what these are for... It's just fun to add bits and grey-stuff to them and paint-away!

Space Marine Whirlwind-build

I had a Rhino that I had painted for my DeathGuards a couple of years ago, but since I haven't played with that army in a while I thought I could salvage that chassi for something else. So I stripped of all the Nurgle-stuff and added some plasticard reinforcements. I also started on a MLRS-styled rocketlauncher. It will only be attached to the roof so it can easily be removed and the chassi used as a regular Rhino or Razorback.

Homegrown Storm Troopers

I started on this squad of Storm Troopers right after I finished the "Killteam"-squads. I wanted to see what it took to make regular Cadians into something that looked more like Storm Troopers. This is the result of that experiment.

Some added armor made from plasticard. Rebreathers from the Cadian HQ box and the googled heads from some Cadian heavy weapons teams. The backpacks are cut-down vox-caster backpacks.

Started on a new squad for my Raptors space marines last weekend. A sqaud of Assault Marines on foot - well not exactly since they are going to get their own Rhino.
I've managed to do half of the squad right now.

I beefed-up a Power-Axe for the Sgt (if you are bringing an axe to the fight - make sure you bring the biggest one around!) and gave him a Stormshield.
If I put other projects aside I might have this squad finished by sunday night.

Working on the "Reaper"

I'm finaly giving my Raptors Chapter Space Marine some love again. And I thought a bit of conversion work on one of my Dreads was a good idea. This is the result as of now:

Rebuilding some feathers.

Since I was in a hurry to get this mini ready for some games earlier this summer I wasn't really satisfied with it.

I just did some quick work on the armor and added a feathered cloak to it, fitting a Captain of the Raptors. Since someone said: "you should give him a cool feathered cloak", I tried to make one, but I was in a bit of a hurry so I made it from pieces of plasticard.

And the result was kind of flat. Now I've had some more time to tinker with it and I also found a nice article over at Dave Taylers Miniatures about making feathers out of greenstuff (link).

After ripping away all the old, flat, plasticard feathers I just reattached the new ones.

And some paint, and I'm quite pleased with it! Next up will be to do a total armour and detail remake.

New Daemonprince-build, "The Reaper".

I have had this one in the box ever since it was released. I couldn't really get myself to start building it, not before I had a clear picture of what I wanted it to look like. After some cutting, repositioning and green-stuffing I started the painting - and that's where I'm at right now...

Since the inside of the wings are still basecoated, black, the sculpted details are quite hard to see right now (they are to symbolise all the souls that the "Reaper" has collected).

An axe or a sword was a bit to standard for this one, so I gave him a scythe - you can't be the "Reaper" without a good scythe!
The paintjob, so far, is a combination of GW Dheneb Stone and GW Ice Blue - for the skin. Shaded with a bit of GW Regal Blue and highlighted with a bit of GW Kommando Khaki added to the original mix.

Send in the Killteam!

I've wanted to build an Imperial Guard Killteam ever since I read the "Killteam" omnibus. I was fascinated by the Colonels iron resolve and Lt. Kage - who in my opinion is one of the most unsympathetic characters in the whole Imperium! But nevermind that - I wanted to put together my own band of hardenend criminals in the service of the glorious Emperor. With the "Battle Missions"-book came the perfect oportunity to put my plan into motion. This is the result: two squads of Veterans with the Colonel and Kage as officers (a bit of a down-trade, I know, but it's just for the feel and fun of it!).

The Colonel takes charge of the first squad:

From left to right we have, in the front row: "The Colonel", "Shadow", "Heavy", "Rock" and "Scannerman". In the back row we have: "Ninker", "One-Eye", "Gunman" and "Spook". I'm still missing a soldier in this squad..

Lt. Kage commands the second squad:

From the left, in the front row: "Kage", "Boomer", "Bulldog", "Scar" and "Zealot". In the back row we have: "Sniper", "Anvil", "Tech", "Hammer" and "Grenadier".

The story behind the scenes:

The Colonel and Lt. Kage are the "backbone" of the 13:th Penal Legion.
The Colonel is a long time servant of the Imperium and Kage is the psycho-killer, the perfect warrior (when he follows orders) and the only one that can control the rest of the legion (besides the Colonel that is).
Weapons: The Colonel has a Power sword and a Plasma Pistol. Lt. Kage carries a Bolt Pistol and his big trusty combatknife.

Trooper "Tech".
Crime: Tech-heresy.
"Tech" was an ambitious Techpriest that wanted too much too fast. He started to dabble in forbidden and Xeno-technology. His superiors stripped him of all his advanced augments and left him as a broken man with the 13:th legion. "Tech" is the obvious tech-expert in the outfit.
Weapon: Servo-Assisted Combat Shotgun, Aegis Pattern.

Trooper "One-Eye".
Crime: Disobeying a direct order.
"One-Eye" hailes from the Imperial Navy. His crime was to delay the closing of an airtight door until all of his teammates had passed thru.
Weapon: Van-Tross Pattern "Ripper" Autopistol (counts as a Lasgun), Standard Navy Combat sable (close-combat weapon).

Trooper "Ninker".
Crime: Murder.
In some peoples eyes "Ninker" is just an Ork dressed in human clothing. He likes it when things explode and weapons that can deliver devestating salvos of fire. Since he is not trusted with any real heavy weapons he has gotten his hands on the next best thing.
Weapon: Van Tross pattern Light support-Autogun (counts as a Lasgun).

Weapon Specialist "Boomer".
Crime: Drunk and disorderly conduct, willfull destruction of Imperial property.
"Boomer" liked his Amasec a bit to much. After almost killing a staff clerk with his grenadelauncher one night the local Commissar placed him in the care of the 13:th penal legion. As long as he's sober he's an expert with explosives and the grenadelauncher.
Weapon: Grenadelauncher.

Heavy Weapon troopers "Heavy" and "Rock".
Crime: Destruction of Imperial property.
"Heavy" is a master with the rocketlauncher, although a bit triggerhappy. During the fierce fighting over an Imperial production-plant one of his rockets hit a storagetank och promethium. The result was a devastating blast that levelled the whole complex to the ground. No Imperial lives where lost but production in the the sector was severely hampered by his actions. "Rock" is the teams loader and spotter. He gets his name from his ability to be solid as a rock, with a back that never breaks. He carries more spare ammunition for the rocketlauncher than any other, ordinary, loader in the Guard and he never tire.
Weapon: True-Shot Pattern Rocket Launcher. "Rock" carries an Aegis pattern autogun and all the ammunition for the rocketlauncher.

Trooper "Spook".
Crime: Murder.
Not much is known about "Spook". His crime is murder but the rest of the file i classified.
Weapon: Van Tross pattern compact Autogun (count as a Lasgun).

Trooper "Shadow".
Crime: Numerous counts of murder, Willfull destruction of Imperial property, desertion.
"Shadow" is a previous member of an elite recon team operating behind enemy lines. Command had classified the team as dead until they for some reason started to do guerilla raids into Imperial territory. "Shadow" was the only one taken alive when Imperial justice later on caught up with them. "Shadow" had a lot of Imperial lives on his conscience and is guilty of destroyng several Imperial instalations including a vital bridge.
Weapon: Stalker pattern Lasgun and close-combat weapon.

Trooper "Grenadier".
Crime: Murder (Killing a superior officer)
"Grenadier" and "Scar" are brothers. And to protect his brothers drughabit "Grenadier" stabs their squadleader to death in a drunken brawl.
Weapon: Lasgun.

Trooper "Scar".
Crime: Excessive use of combat stimulants.
His body is covered with scars and needlemarks from years of using combar stimulants. His former squadleader didn't approve and threatened to rat him out - so his brother killed him. The Colonel dosn't approve of his use of stimulants but as long as "Scar" does what he's supposed to do he turns a blind eye to it.
Weapon: Lasgun.

Weapon Specialist "Sniper".
Crime: Disobeying orders.
"Sniper" is said to have been firing upon targets designated as non-combatants. He claimed they where deserters helping the underground resistance. "Sniper" is an old lone-wolf and a mastersniper. He can lay patiently in wait for days before taking out his target. The number of his confirmed kills are classified.
Weapon: Sniper Rifle.

Trooper "Gunman".
Crime: Looting and blackmarketeering.
"Gunman" is a fixer. He knows who to talk to and how to get his hands on highly sought after goods. That was just that kind of thing that landed him in the 13:th Penal Legion. He was arrested after being found in possession of some highly valueble Hive Spire art.
Weapon: Lasgun and a Lock Pattern Autopistol (counts as a close-combat weapon).

Trooper "Hammer".
Crime: Disobeying orders.
Born and bred out of Cadia. Disobeying an order or covardice is unhurd of in the militaristic Cadian society. After being cut of from the rest of the force, "Hammer" and his group fought their way back to the insertionpoint. "Hammer" was the only survivor and the only one accused of diobeying a direct order - since the order was to move foreward and not back to the rallypoint.
Weapon: Aegis pattern Autogun (counts as a Lasgun).

Trooper "Anvil".
Crime: Insubordination
"Anvil" has always been a teamplayer en when he was ordered to abandon his wounded teamates he simply refused. Instead he layed down coverfire until the medics could move the wounded out of the area. During the manouver the squadleader was vaporised by a plasmabolt and "Anvil" had to answer for his actions to the local Commissar.
Weapon: Van-Tross pattern Autogun (counts as a Lasgun).

Specialist Trooper "Zealot".
Crime: Member of forbidden Imperial cult.
"Zealot" could never drop being a cultist not even when he was drafted from his homeworld. He was convicted for being a member of a forbidden cult and shipped of to the penal legion. His provess with the flamer earned him a spot on the Colonels team of Last Chancers.
Weapon: Flamer and close-combat weapon.

Trooper "Scannerman".
Crime: Treason.
"Scannerman" is a former Adeptus Arbites - a corrupt one to say the least. After making several deals with underworld contacts - selling troop positions and locations of weaponscaches, he was finaly apprahended by the Internal affairs devision. His deathsentence was transformed, by the Colonel, to a lifetime membership of the 13:th Penal Legion.
Weapon: Arbites standard issue Combat Shotgun.

Trooper "Bulldog".
Crime: Several counts of murder and insubordination.
"Bulldog" is a ferious fighter without any restrains. When he charges into the enemys ranks he lets his shotgun do the talking. There have been several incidents when Lt. Kage has been forced to strike him unconcious just so he can calm down.
Weapon: Aegis-pattern Combat Shotgun.

Now there's only the question of what suicide mission will I send them on!

A bit of Yarrick

Last week I started on this one. I'm not going to use him in any army and I'm going to mount him on a winter-styled base when it's finished.
I was aiming for a bit of a blue/pale/"winterish" kind of theme on this one.

The sash and the stormbolter and some other details still need some love before I start with the base.

Last weekend I finaly got around to try something new. After some research I came across a nice tutorial on masteroftheforge.com titled "How to make an actual scale Space Marine". And since I hade some plastic Terminators just laying around I thought "hey let's try this".
And here are some pics of my progress last sunday:

There are still some gaps that needs filling and I'm thinking about adding some more raised plasticard details. I'm also working on the backpack. And I'm following the tips from the tutorial so it's going to be a bit bigger than the original size. Amazeingly the standard sized Space Marine head works great with the added size of the mini.

Here we have a comparison shot with a standard sized marine and a standard sized guard.

The title of this post is a bit missleading - I do prefer the standard sized marine when it comes to gaming and armybuilding but the bigger, "true scale" sized marine works great when it comes to "one-offs" and dioramas. Now I just need to decide on which Chapter he's going to be a member of. And I'm really looking forward to paint this one.

Back from vacation - back to the workshop and my many projects..

On vacation I had to sample some of the local painting talents of Amsterdam. In the middle of the usual tourist-chaos I found GW Amsterdam to be a relaxed and easygoing retreat.

The "Try the game"-table, with a real nice Blood Angel Flyer.

I had a nice talk with the creator of this one (whose name I regretably have forgotten). It's made of half a Land Raider, most of a Valkyrie flyer and Hbolter turrets from a Predator kit.

I also found some nice Eldar and Nids tucked away in a big display case.

I really regret not getting a better pic of these ones.

I'm usualy not a Warhammer Fantasy-fan but this one caught my eye, maybe it was the banner.

Finished the Valkyrie/Vendetta

The local GW painting competition "forced" me to finish this one. It's for my Strom Renegade Army.

The weapon mounts are all magnetized so it can change weapons and go as a Valkyrie or a Vendetta. I also made the side gunners removeable. It's designated as "01" but there will be no more flyers for my army (not for a while anyway...).

Since I've been having some problems with finding a working armylist for my Marines I've been testing out some different ones. These two are the ones I will be playing with from now on.
First of the 1750 points list:
HQ:
Captain with terminator armour and Power Sword.
TROOPS 1 and 2:
Standard, full, Tactical Squads with flamers and missile launchers. The Sgt is armed with a chainsword and a Boltpistol.
TROOPS 3 and 4:
5 Tactical Marines and a Sgt with a Power Sword. Transported in a Razorback armed with TL Heavy Bolter.
ELITES:
A full ten men Terminator Squad with two Cyclone Missile Launchers. (Very expensive but a solid block of death).
HEAVY SUPPORT 1:
A Land Raider, with a HunterKiller Missile and an extra Stormbolter.
HEAVY SUPPORT 2:
A Devastator squad with two Heavy Bolters, A Plasma Cannon and a Las Cannon.

The 2000 points list:

I found two of my AOBR dreads I painted for my Raptors Chapter Army. I was a bit bored when I started them so I tried out a bit of camo on them. But I ran into a bit of trouble when I mounted them on their bases. When the glue dried the whole thing had bent out of shape. So I removed them, did a rework on the bases and touched up the painting a bit. I also added a bit of chipped paint and some scribbling on the scrolls.

Since there are no chapter-logo on this one I was thinking about adding a banner to its back.

A total take on the Strom Renegade Army

So I got around to taking pictures of the whole army. (Well not really the whole army since the Valkyrie and the Sentinel aren't in the picture).
Here we go:

HQ (front and center) with banner, dual flamers, Vox-caster and Commander with two Body Guards. Also, to the right of the main HQ we have the "Dark Commissar".

I have two main Infantry platoons. The far most left one has a unit of (Zombie)Conscripts added to it. The units have a mix of flamers and granadelaunchers with a Vox-caster in every unit. The platoon command squads have a Vox-caster, meltagun, banner and medics.
If I am to pick out any favorites in my army, we have my dug-in Heavy Bolters, and not to forget the "Ogryn Autocannon Carrier":

And my Psyker Battle Squad, one of my overall favorite builds in this army:

Then the question is, "what's my next move? What plans do I have for the future of this army?" Well, first of I want to put two more Armoured Sentinels on the table - so I have a full trio of them. Then I'm thinking that I might want some Storm Troopers to put in my Valkyrie Transport. And another thought is to add more Conscripts to the squad - right now there are 20 of them. I might want to max them out. But that's all in the (near)future. Right now there are still some details to finish up here and there on my existing minis.

I like to multitask! It's good to mix your painting-projects - so you don't lose your interrest along the way. Right now I'm putting my main interrest into my Valkyria/Vendetta -flyer, but I'm also getting some job done on some other projects:
First up is my re-painted Space Marine Scouts. They used to be Blood Angels but now they're part of my Raptors Chapter Army:

Work is progressing on The Valkyria/Vendetta build. And now the work is starting to get into the fun part.

I've started the weathering process on some parts on the hull and I added some white stripes on the wings. I will also add some stripes to the fins.

For some time now I have been working on the Valkyria Transport/Vendetta Gunship. And I have to admit that I'm getting a bit tired of it. I will not be building another one of these kits, not in a while anyway.
But let's return to the progress at hand:

I masked the areas of the hull that's closest to the engines. I didn't want any of the weathering spilling outside the engines at this moment. I've also blacklined all of the different panels the hull consists of.

I've used the same technique for the weathering of the engines that I used for the Raptors Chapter Land Raider (still a work in progress but will be completed as soon as this bird is finished). I'm still pondering how much of the rest of the kit I will attack with my weathering. This time I'm trying to think before I start - I usually have a tendency to overdo the weathering part of many of my larger builds...

In an effort to try and save some space, when it comes to transporting this kit, I have magnetized the cockpit so it can be removed when it needs to packed away. I have also magnetized the two hardpoints under the wings and the cannon-mount on the left side of the cockpit. I can now chose freely what weapons it will be carrying into battle. I have also constructed two sets of Twinlinked LasCannons for the Vendetta-variant (still missing another Twinlinked set for the cockpit).

So I really went back on the plan, not to add any vehicles to my Traitor army. After building my first Sentinel I wanted a bit of a challange - so instead of buing two more sentinels I baught a Valkyria Transport.
And right now I'm detailing the interior:

As for armaments I will magnetize the whole lot - and build some Lascannon-mounts so I can upgrade it to a Vendetta gunship. I have used the same paintingtechniques on the interior as I used on the Raptors Landraider. And as for the colour of the outer hull I will go for the same as on the Sentinel - with some nice Chaos Stars and insignias.

Magnetized Traitor Sentinel

I've been working on this one instead of watching the paint dry on my Land Raider. And this is the progress as of last night. I have opted for a discreet paintjob, with only the Chaos-star on the left side to signify it's allegiance.

This is the first mini ever that I've tried to magnetize. I have used a small magnet that I found in a FOW tank-kit. Since I didn't find any use for them there I'll be using them to magnetize the weapons on my comming Sentinel Squadron for my Traitor army:

Heavy Flamer, Lascannon, Plasmacannon, Autocannon and Missile Launcher are all fitted with a small metalstrip, so it can easily lock into place.

Land Raider, day-by-day, part 4

Part 4 of these postings includes the progress from day 4 and 5 on my Land Raider for my Raptors Chapter space marine army.
After painting the interior of the tank I thought fitting all the pieces together vould be a breeze. I ran into some problems, especialy when it comes to fitting the roof-part into place. Even after I dry-fitted it all together two times just to be sure, I had a hard time putting it all together. But in the end it turned out ok.

Next step was to assemble the heavy bolters and the Las-cannons with it's mounts.

Now I have done the overall colour of the tank to match my army and some detailwork on the cannons. Late last night I started assembling the two hatches that go on top of the roof. The colour is quite flat right now so I need to do some shading and some highlighting, paint the tracks and continue on the engine-piece at tha back, also the headlights need some paint.

Land Raider day-by-day, part 3

Land Raider, day by day, part 2

This is the second day of this day-by-day experience. Last night I spent a lot of time on the computerpanel and the weathering-effect on the left side of the interior and the floor.

The computerpanel was a bit time-consuming to paint but a fun part of the project. Tomorrow I'm planning on having the right side of the interior completed so I can move on to the engine-panel.

Land Raider, day by day

Last night I started working on a Land Raider kit for my Raptors. For some time now I have been spending my time working on other armies but after I did some touch-up work on my Terminators for my Raptors Chapter army I decided that the army need a bit more love - in the form of a Land Raider.
Since I plan to work on this kit until it's finished I'm going to post a "day-by-day" update.
Day 1:
I started on the interior pieces of the tank, I also started with some weathering on the floor-piece.

Tonight I will continue the work on the inner details, the computer, the shrine, seats etc. And I will start on the other wall if there's time.

Finished up some painting last night:
I've had this one laying around for quite some time now, but I didn't really get around to finishing it until yesterday.

Sniperteam and bodyguards

Some time back I started on a sniperteam, a spotter guardsman and a specialweapons guardsman armed with a sniper rifle, for one of my optional Special weapons teams.

I also needed some advisors for my Company HQ, so I went about to build two bodyguards:

I just finished off the latest Infantry squad for my "Strom" Renegade army.

The Sgt. armed with a Boltpistol and a Powerweapon.

Vox-caster, Grenade-launcher and a bunch of mutated guardsmen. This was a fun build, but a bit time-consuming since I used a large amount of different bits from different kits. Right now I'm planning for another Infantry Squad, but I need to do some digging in my bits-boxes for some usable bits before I continue.

Last week I started on a new infantry squad for my renegade army.

These are just the part of the squad that's still in the painting-in-progress stage. I mixed in a lot of different pieces into this build.

These three are the only ones that I've finished so far. The two guardsmen in the hoods are clearly inspired by the Vraksian Renegades, and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

Base work

I don’t like building bases for my minis – I love it! I can tinker with bases until the sun comes up if I have the opportunity. My love for base-building comes from the fact that slotted-bases still exist! Some time back I had a large number of minis that needed basing, the only problem was that I only had an equally large number of empty bases of the slotted type. So I started the grievous work of covering up all the holes. From that experience I started to get a thing for the craft of base-building.

So what’s the key to building a good base?

I would say that the number one thing to think about is the overall theme of your army. If you are building an urban-type army, then you go for the urban-rubble type bases. Or if you want a more standard battlefield feel to it – then that’s your theme. I tend to mix “standard” battlefield themed bases with a bit more rubble-themed ones. I don’t like to have too many flat bases in my armies. And when I say flat, I mean bases where you just add glue and sand. It gives the base texture but it also makes the mini look like it’s standing on a completely flat surface. And in my opinion a war-torn battlefield is seldom completely flat!

So what do I put on a battlefield base?

It could be pieces of destroyed weapons, spent ammo cartridges, pieces of wire, mesh, stones, masonry. Well just use your imagination – but don’t overdo it! If you put a broken lasgun or bolter on every one of your bases it will soon give the army the look that it’s fighting in a blown-up armory. Just mix it up! Whatever type of base you choose to make – think like this: what things do you expect find on the ground of a battlefield?

On the three bases on the previous picture I’ve used some pieces of plastic sprue to simulate some urban rubble and some skulls from the Citadel 40K basing set. A can recommend the basing set – to use as complement to your more personal stuff. I also use Citadel basing sand mixed with a bit of small basing slate. The spent cartridges that litter the bases are made from a thin roll of modeling putty, cut into appropriate sized pieces, glued to the base with superglue. The grass I use are the Citadel Scorched grass - I think it has the best look for a battlefield or an urban styled base.

But when it comes to covering up slotted bases and making some nice work out of it, I designed some nice urban styled bases.

Here we have six 20mm bases and a 40mm base that I styled out with some GF9 “Grey stuff”. The trick is to make the lines uneven, so it looks like masonry. Then add some scratches and lines for details.
Another trick is to add the “Grey stuff”, not over the entire base, but in patches, the green highlighted areas are the areas where I used the “Grey stuff”.

The rest of the base is covered with a layer of PVA glue and then dipped in Citadel sand. If you do like this the base will get a more even coverage than if you cover the whole base with “Grey stuff”.

Dark Commissar Update!

I did a bit of work on my "Fallen Commissar".

To get the right "tired" look on his eyes I used a dash of Asurmen Blue-wash before I started on the white. The scar and the lips are shaded with Baal Red. To define the scar a bit more I highlighted the edges with a mix of Elf Flesh and a bit of standard white.
The original wash of Gryphonne Sepia and the following layers of paint gives his face a very thin and tired look - in my opinion.

Here is a shot of his face that I took right after I washed it down with a liberal amount of Gryphonne Sepia.
I tend to switch between the Gryphonne Wash and the Ogryn Flesh Wash. As a rule of thumb I use the Ogryn Wash when I'm painting something more "fleshy" like this one:

Special weapons squad finished!

I finished the Special Weapons squad, called "5-10", last night. I'm really pleased with the result!

And since I got a bit bored later on I also started on my two HQ Bodyguards:

So this weekend will be dedicated to finishing these two and maybe starting on a pair of heavy weapons teams.

Ghoul Servitors ?!

Some time ago I found myself with some Warhammer Fantasy Ghoul minis that I didn't have any use for. So what can you do with som skinny-looking, mean-spirited, human-eating minis? Well you can add some stuff to them and make them into something more fitting the 40K universe.

Chain-weapon arm, a Necromunda pattern Lasgun and some other stuff was added to them and after just some quick brushworks they are starting to look like some creepy servitors.

I have no idea what i'm going to do with them once they are finished. But you never know when you are going to need some servitors. My first thought was to use them as "gangers" in some Ad-Mech styled Necromunda gang. But since I haven't played a full Necromunda game in years I don't see that plan really comming together...

Hmm... I have to clean some of my minis, on these pictures it almost looks like they have fur on their backs! No, they've just been standing in the window collecting dust for a while now...

Renegade Ogryns

A while back I converted some Warhammer Fantasy Ogres into some Renegade Ogryns - styled after the Vraks Ruleset. But since I started to build my "Strom Renegades" to fit into the IG Codex I really needed to re-style the Ogryns!

Last week I finished the Overseer for this squad. Now I've gotten around to take some pics on all of them. This build was a real fun one. Once I got going I could really get creative. I specially picket different types of heads for these minis. I wanted to give them a more personal look, and I think I pulled it of. It also gave me the chanse to use some different colours. I'm really pleased with the result!

The Dark Commissar

I was thinking about adding some flavor to my Imperial Guard Renegade army, so I thought why not use a fallen Commissar-character?
This is the progress on him so far:

The pose is inspired by one of the GW metal minis.
I will also mount him on a bigger base that I made last night:

The broken cog-wheel is a piece that I cast myself with GF9 Grey Stuff (better for doing your own casting than GS since you can mix more of the black curing agent into the mix, and get it ready a bit faster than usual).
For the armor on the Fallen Commissar I used stippling, with some different colours to get a really worn-out look.

I'm also thinking about adding some books or scrolls to his belt, he feels a bit naked in the front right now.
Well, there are still a lot of layers of paint left to do on this one!

I bought this one just after it was released. But it took me a while before I painted it. And I have to say that I didn't like it. It has a closed pose, and I'm not a fan of painting pieces first and then assembling them. I have some difficulty when it comes to get the colours right on the different pieces. This time it was quite easy to fix all of that when all the pieces were in place.

Most of the armor, pants and the cloak are in the same colours as my Raptors Chapter Army. But i opted for keeping the Ultra Marines shoulderpad blue and white, just so it's clear that he's just on loan from the chapter.

I also gave some of the armor some weathering - especially on the knee- and shoulderpads. As much as I dislike his pose I'm fairly pleased with the result. The base still needs some more details before I'm satisfied with it all.

I also started on the Overseer for my Psyker Battle Squad, that I haven't published any pics of yet, but they are all finished.

Heavy Weapons Teams.

I came up with a smart idea when it comes to saving some pieces or getting the biggest bang from you Heavy Weapons kits.
Some time now I've been working on three Heavy Bolter Teams for my Traitor Imperial Guard Army - The Strom Renegades.

As you can see the right one is still not 100% finished.

A close-up on the first one I did build. The only one that I consider finished right now.

The second one, this time without the shield, I think they feel more "dug-in" without it.

The last one still needs some more Grey Stuff and sand on the roof. Also another coat of paint is needed and a bit of scorched grass here and there.

New year and new builds!

I started out the new year with building some new additions to my Traitor Imperial Guard Army.
I had some spare stuff laying around so I started with making some Special Weapons Guardsmen.
First off we have some flamers, fits nicely into the theme of the army. Well I don't really have a theme, I just think flamers are wicked weapons. These three are just straight forward Cadian guardsmen with some different heads. All three of them have heads from the Warhammer Fantasy range - Flagellants to be more precise. I used a spare empty helmet and shaved a bit of plastic of the second ones head to make it a better fit.
Next up is this duo. A sniper and his spotter. With this one I now have three snipers in the army, and can make a Special weapons team with snipers if I want to. The spotter will go as another Lasgun armed guardsman in the same squad.
The kneeling parts are from the Cadian Heavy weapons teams boxed-set. The head on the left one is from the Warhammer Fantasy - Imperial Militia box. The head on the right one is from the Catachan Hq boxed-set.
Both have backpacks from the Cadian Heavy Weapons set.

Next up is The Dark Commissar(!) I thought my army needed a character who could inspire greatness/fear into them as they run to their death across the battlefield. The most interresting part in this build is the powerfist that I took from the old(!) Necromunda equipment sprue (old - yes the sprue is dated 1992). The head is one of my favorites - it's from the Imperial Flagellant sprue. So is also the bannerpole. The coat is also another favorite piece of mine - from the Imperial Militia sprue. I added a bit of armor with some GS.
I have to say that I'm very pleased with the result!

Playing with bases!

Some time ago I was playing around with GS casting, now I'm playing around with bases.
Here are some urban styled ones with some nice, in my opinion, brick-work. With a bit of practice you can easily make a lot of these in one day (or in my case night...).

I'm most pleased with the big one, I added some spent shells and a cable to it.

The bases above are in a bit more "battlefield"-fashion.

This last one is crawling with undead. I was thinking about mounting some sort of evil wizard, preist or demon on the rocky part.

I also made a Heavy weapons team with a Autocannon for the same squad if I ever opt for some firesupport, or I put it to use somewhere else in the army.
The process of putting heavier armor on the squad has been taking a bit longer than I planned for, I was hoping to be well into the painting stage right now.

Well, when I started this thread, about Summer Project 2009, I thought that I vould write every day about the progress. But it didn't turn out quite like that. So from now on I will not be presenting any daily updates on the project, instead I will post updates as it comes along.
Right now I'm working on a Veteran squad. 3 flamers (1 heavy and 2 normal), vox-caster, Sgt. with power-weapon & boltpistol and the rest of the squad armed with shotguns. I also added the Grenadier doctrine to them so I had to add some extra armor to all of them. I opted for metalplates and chainmail-looking extra armor. I think it will fit quite nicely into the rest of the army.
Again I post without any picturs since I have been too lacy to break out the camera. I hope that the next update will involve some pics of the state of the project!

Day two of the great kitbash

So I got my hands on a box of HQ-minis, the Cadian ones. And put together two platoon command squads with the pieces. I also started to put some sand on some of the bases. The Zombie-conscripts all got based and the mortar team. I also opted to put the Vox-caster for the regimental Hq-squad on a bigger base than was needed. Since I gave him a bigger Vox-caster and a bit of scenery. Next up is finishing up with the bases and fixing one of the platoon standards. I have to grind down the Cadian emblems on it, it takes time and I'm also filling it out with some GS to make it i bit smoother.
All in all I'm quite happy with the progress so far. But it's going to be a pain to paint them all...
I'm still pondering what colour I'm going to use on their uniforms.

A hard days work...

Today has been all about assembly, with a capital "A". 43 Guards, including 2 Guard squads, 20 Zombie-Conscripts, a Mortar team and another Sgt. for my first platoon. It's been a productive day I have to say. The Zombie-conscripts, I have to say, were the hardest ones to work with. Their hands are not really suited to carry Lasguns. But in the end I think it will work. Some of them also got some Cadian helmets and some other stuff - to make them more military than shambling undead.
Next up is getting some more round bases - I ran out of round bases halfway thrue the Zombie squad. I also need to pick up a box of Cadian Hq. I will need the pieces to make two platoon command squads. And there are alot of nice pieces in that box - that I think will fit beatifully into the mix!
The Platoon Command Squad will consist of: Commander with a Boltpistol, one guardsman carrying a standard, one guardsman with a Meltagun, a Vox-caster and a Medic. The other Platoon Command squad will be identical.
Later on I will also have to build the HQ squad. A company Command Squad with: commander armed with either a Boltpistol or a Boltgun. A regemental standard, a Vox-Caster and two flamers. I'm also thinking about adding two bodyguards to the squad.

Summer Project 2009!

This years summer project come in different stages. The big one (!) is the building of a Traitor Imperial Guard army. Earlier this year I experimented with combining somw left-over IG-parts with some Imperial Militia parts - a strange and fun result. So as a birthday gift to myself I bought about 50 minis that I'm planning on turning into some Renagade troops.
The second part of this summers project is "picking up the slack" on some old projects: My Nurgle Chaos-Lord, patch up my Baneblade (from last summer), finish up a terminator squad, build and paint two Devestator Marines (H.Bolter and Lascannon), repaint a 5-man squad of Scouts.
Well, I do have my work cut out for me this summer!

Adeptus Mechanicus Techpriest

A while ago I wanted to make an Adeptus Mechanicus character. So I ended up building this Techpriest from a lot of GS and a lot of different spare parts that I had in my bitsbox. The whole concept was inspired by some of the artwork that can be found in various Dark Heresy books. The base is one of the things that I'm really pleased with. It's mostly GS, sculpted in different stages. From the beginning he was also supposed to have a drone floating in the air next to him, but when it came down to assembly the base looked to crowded. So I decided not to use it for this project.

Still got some details to get done, but I'm counting on getting it ready by tomorrow. I also added the scattered equipment around the scene, which points against the chaos of the battle.

Added the ejecting shells first but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped, so I made a nice muzzleflare with some GS. Works quite well, in my opinion.

Some skulls here and there. Some wires sticking up from the ground and some more work done on the ground. I also added a lot (!) of watered-down paperglue on to the "swampy"-part of the scene. To add some more colour to this very brown scene I will add some colourful mushrooms and strange UnderHive vegetation to it later on. Maybe some green slime in the water too. I'm also working on making some nice bones to pile up around the ZombieMaster - still waiting on the results of the moulds on those...

Right now I'm working on two (three, five, ten...) different projects for a competition. This one is a Battlescene featuring some old (!) Necromunda minis.

This was the original idea. But after some work on it, it just felt too big. So I did some cutting and got it down to this:

The two circular holes are where the two "heroes" of this build is going to be mounted. Since I didn't want to glue them directly to the scene I opted on mounting them on some nice 20mm bases and then fixing the base to the scene.

Here we can see "The Zombie Master" and the Escher Ganger. In front of her I'm going to mount another Zombie who's taking a nice big hit from the Shotgun straight in the face... And another Zimbie is going to be mounted on the tilted pillar - just peaking over, ready to jump down and attack.

As you can see the ground still need some work - which only can be seen when you put the scene under a strong light.

Trying out some new stuff

So far this week has been an interresting one. Since I'm low on cash and useable bitz I've been trying my hand att some GS casting.

After following some advice found at some different forums and blogs I sat my sights at trying to cast some small pices in GS.

As you can see from the picture above the result is quite good, even with pieces that got small details, like the grenade-packs.

And here you can see one of the seals placed on a mini. And to the right is the mould I made from filling up a round 20mm base with GS. Then I applied ordinary vegetable-based oil on to the pieces that I wanted to cast. Next step was to press them down into the GS, and leaving them in there until the GS hardened.

I also tried my hand at making quick, simple and nice bases. The base on the right is the "negative" one. I made it by covering an ordiary 20mm round base with GS and then applying some oil to the surface. Then I pressed it on to the base I wanted to copy. So now I got a nice mould that I can use to create some quick metalplated bases!

Since my first moulds, with the seals worked so well, I also casted a skull. The size of it makes for a good ornament on the powered-armor! As you also can see, this mini is mounted on one of the bases that I made with the "negative" one that I talked about earlier.

Final thoughts: - I love this! My next project is to cast a modified head. Which means that I will have to make a double mould. Right now all my casted bits only got details on one side. So casting a head will be a bit more tricky, i think...

One thing to remember: - When using vegetable-based oil on GS (which keeps the GS from sticking to the mould) the curing time for the GS increases a bit.

New book on the horizon!

Well, by accident I wandered onto Black Library website. It seems like Sandy Mitchell has written a second book set in the Dark Heresy framework.

Right now there are no previews to download but if this book is half as good as the first one, it's going to be glorious!
Sadly enough it won't be out until late this fall...
But since I'm reading C.S Gotos Deathwatch books right now and I'm thinking about digging in to Ravenor later on - I got some reading to do, to pass the time until "Innocence proves nothing".

5:th edition Imperial Guard Codex

Well, I finaly got to take a look on the new IG Codex. And after some quick reading my opinion is that it's a solid book for a solid army. The IG has been upgraded from being the army with a lot of minis to being a army that can dish out some real nasty stuff. The only thing that is sad to see is that Last Chancers have been substituted with Penal Legion squads. Downgraded and without the leadership of Colonel Schaeffer. On the other hand there are a lot of new additions when it comes to characters, including Straken "Ironhand" and Sly "The one-man army" Marbo. But the most important thing is the additions of vehicles to the army. Now you don't have to turn to Imperial Armour books to add some heavy stuff to your army - like the Deathstrike Missile Launcher (something that I've previously only seen in Epic).
I could go on and on all day about this, but I got better things to do, like slapping some paint on my Hellblades and on my Lesser Daemons.

Chaos Hellblade ...incomming!

Two weeks back I started scratchbuilding some airsupport for my Chaos army. Right now I'm working on two Hellblade fighters. The primary material on this one is some cardboard, a bottlecap (to hold the engine in place), some filler for all the gaps and greenstuff for the raised details (that aren't cardboard). When everything is finished the pilot and a dashboard will be fitted inside the cockpit. This build is a cross between a display-piece and some Heavy support for my Chaos army. The base will also reflect that - still need to get going on that one...

Another Hellblade is on the way, this time in a more greenish colour and with some more gs-work on the hull. (Thinking about naming it The green Devil)

Still missing on this one: the "Baron" himself, the pilot. Well and not to forget the two twinlinked autocannons... And, well, the whole engine-package. It's a sub-assembly that's about ready for mounting, just need a coat of paint on it before I start on the details.

Experimental Ice camouflage marines

Recently I ran in to a streak of boredom. So one night I built these two Space marine Veterans and gave them a sort of "midnight ice-world" kind of look.

They are still in the painting process and far from finished.
The primary inspiration for these two are my ongoing building of my Raptors Chapter army and the fact that the Raptors use different camouflage-patterns for their armour depending on the enviroment they fight in. These two may possibly be joined by others in the future to make up a Hq squad or something.

Dark Heresy: Disciples of The Dark Gods

A dark day in december I finaly got my hands on this book. And I have to say that it was worth waiting for. The overall look of this book is just as good as any of the other books that Fantasy Flight has released into the game. This time around I can honestly say that this is one scary book. The structure of the book follows the three (biggest) Ordos of the Inquisition. You got your Xenos-threats, your heretics and your Daemons. And you also get a well-written scenario at the end of the book that can really put the players in a tight spot. The only drawback, as I see it is that I had hoped for some more gear, some interresting relics and some more "usefriendly" adversaries. I'm personaly not fond about stuff that say : "If it touches you - you die", well, it works in CoC but not in Dark Heresy.

This book is a must-buy for all Dark Heresy Gamemasters. I'll promise that you will find a 1001 new ways to torment your players after you read it - I did anyway!

Right now the only thing to do is to wait until "Creatures Anathema" is released!
